Kayaker on the Great Miami River

Membership Information
You are invited to become a member of Friends of the Great Miami. Your membership dues will add leverage to our grants, donations and volunteer efforts to conserve and restore the Great Miami River, its riparian corridor and its tributaries.

We made some important strides in 2003 and 2004 and hope to accomplish even more in 2005. We successfully jump-started a campaign to gain Scenic River Designation for the Great Miami. We collaborated with the OKI Regional Council of Governments to win a grant from the Miami Conservancy District to educate citizens and civic leaders about best management practices that improve water quality. We collected a dump-truck load of debris and eradicated dozens of non-native, invasive honeysuckle bushes from a riverside park site.

We solidified our leadership structure, strengthened relationships with key organizations, sponsored two river flotillas and honed in on projects that will bring results. 2005 plans include the introduction of a major river festival with running, boating, fishing, and canoeing events. This spring we launched our high school-based water quality monitoring program along the river and several streams. This autumn, we hope you will, again, help us plant native shrubs and trees along a sweeping river bend that borders a parkland bird sanctuary.
