Mission Statement
FOGM is a 501(c)3 citizen based educational group formed to help conserve, restore and enhance the Great Miami River for the benefit of wildlife, residents, and the public interest.
We made some important strides in the last few years and hope to accomplish even more in the coming months. We successfully jump-started a campaign to gain Scenic River Designation for the Great Miami. We collaborated with the OKI Regional Council of Governments to win a grant from the Miami Conservancy District to educate citizens and civic leaders about best management practices that improve water quality. We collected a dump-truck load of debris and eradicated dozens of non-native, invasive honeysuckle bushes from a riverside park site.
We solidified our leadership structure, strengthened relationships with key organizations, sponsored two river flotillas and honed in on projects that will bring results. This year’s plans include the introduction of a major river festival with running, boating, fishing, and canoeing events. This spring we will launch our high school-based water quality monitoring program along the river and several streams. This autumn, we hope you will help us plant native shrubs and trees along a sweeping river bend that borders a parkland bird sanctuary.
