Organizational History
Founded by and originally funded by Rivers Unlimited, FOGM is a grassroots environmental organization dedicated to the reclamation and remediation of the Great Miami River and its surrounding corridor. Our first meeting in December 1998 sought to bring together interested parties in the remediation of environmentally unfriendly practices along the river as well as preserving those areas that may qualify ultimately for State or National Wild and Scenic River Status.
FOGM applied for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in 1999 and was granted Advance Ruling Status for a period of four years in December of 1999. At that point, FOGM began operating independently of Rivers Unlimited. To date, FOGM has elected Trustees and designated an incorporator/statutory agent as required under Ohio corporate law; held monthly membership meetings, and hired a full-time Development Director as of April 2001. In addition, we have sought to work with other existing organizations in order to combine our efforts with those of other interested groups such as the Miami Conservancy District, Citizen's Land Conservancy, Chevron Citizens Advisory Panel, etc.
